- Pick a good time to quit. Avoid times of high stress, like holidays.
- Remove temptation by getting rid of all cigarettes, tobacco products, lighters and ashtrays.
- Get support from your family and friends. Ask them not to smoke around you.
- Talk to your healthcare provider. You may benefit from attending cessation classes, support groups or using medications.
- Eat a balanced diet, drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep.
- Prepare yourself for withdrawal and side effects such as depression, irritability and headaches.
- Keep busy! Find something to occupy your time and keep your mind off smoking.
